Derivatives: Origins in Geometry is a juried competition to recognize excellence in emerging visual artists deriving inspiration from geometric abstraction. Artists who are selected as finalists will be featured in an exhibit at the Museum July 15 through September 25, shown in the DADA Fall Gallery Walk, included in a catalog with other finalists, receive exposure on the museum website, and have the opportunity to win cash awards for their exemplary work. All visual art mediums welcome.
The Museum of Geometric and MADI Art opened in February 2003. The museum concentrates on modern and contemporary geometric, constructivist and kinetic art work. It is also the first museum with a concentration on MADI art, which is always non-representational, hard-edged, and comes out of the frame.
ABOUT THE JUROR:
Vincent Falsetta earned his Master of Fine Arts degree from the Tyler School of Art in 1974. Since 1978 Falsetta has taught Studio Art at the University of North Texas in Denton and has had a continual exhibition record. He has received grants from the Pollack-Krasner Foundation Grant and the Mid America Arts Alliance/National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship Award among others. His work is found in the permanent collections of: the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, the Tyler Museum of Art, TX; Art Museum of South Texas in Beaumont, TX; El Paso Museum of Art, TX; Swope Art Museum in Terra Haute, IN; Neiman Marcus, Dallas, TX; Arkansas Art Center, Little Rock, AR and the Longview Art Museum, Longview, TX. Falsetta is represented by Conduit Gallery in Dallas and REM Gallery in San Antonio.
AWARDS:
A total of $875 will be awarded as follows: Best of Show - $500; Second Place - $250; and Third Place - $125.
ELIGIBILITY:
- The competition is open to all artists working in all mediums.
- Any work of art is acceptable as long as it is:
· Incorporates geometric elements either as the basis for exploration, the underlying structure or within the finished work
· been made within the last two years
FEES:
There is a $15 entry which includes entry for 3 pieces. Multiple images may be submitted for one piece.
The maximum number of images artist can submit is 8.
RULES FOR ENTRY:
- Works are accepted based on images and the information in your entry form; any deviation from the application in medium, dimensions, or format is not permitted.
- A maximum of 8 digital image files (jpegs, max 300 dpi resolution, 1600 x 1600 pixels maximum) or 8 moving image files (saved in QuickTime format) 5 minutes or less may be submitted. No slides, please. Number each entry according to the entry form. All image titles should be labeled with your last name. (Example: 1_LASTNAME_TITLE_YEAR.jpg)
- For all submissions, the maximum size for total entry should not exceed 8MB. Individual emails with combined attachments larger than 8mb are unable to be received.

NOTIFICATION OF RETURN: Applicants will be notified by June 21, 2011. CDs and DVDs will be returned at this time with the exception of accepted submissions and submissions that do not contain a self-addressed stamped envelope. The museum retains the right to reject any selected work that differs from the work submitted.
LIABILITY & AGREEMENT: Works will be insured while on the premises of The Museum of Geometric and MADI Art. However, the museum cannot be responsible for damage or loss during transit. The Museum of Geometric and MADI retains the right to display and reproduce work accepted for this exhibition for publicity and promotional purposes.
Exhibiting artists pay for round-trip shipping of their work. Upon your acceptance, the work to be exhibited must be delivered ready-to-hang with d-rings and wire needed for installation of the work. Artists exhibiting slide or video projection, installation or sculptural works beyond a two dimensional format must provide the hardware and equipment necessary to exhibit the work as it is intended to be shown. The Museum of Geometric and MADI Art does not provide slide or video projectors. Your entry constitutes understanding and agreement with the conditions outlined in this prospectus.
