Jeffrey L. Broome, Ph.D.


Biography

Jeff Broome is an assistant professor of Art Education at the University of North Texas. His teaching and research interests include explorations into multi-age models of art education, classroom management, interdisciplinary approaches to art education, and the social foundations of art and education.  Professor Broome earned his Ph.D. in art education from Florida State University in the fall of 2006 and began his career in higher education as a visiting professor of art education at the University of Georgia from 2006 to 2008.  He presents regularly at both National and State Conferences, and has presented on the topic of thematically integrated art projects at school district workshops.  His manuscripts have been published in such academic journals as the Journal of Multiage Education, Studies in Art Education, the Journal for the Multiage Association of Queensland, and also as a National Art Education Association Advisory.  Additionally, Professor Broome has co-authored curriculum planners for the David C. Anchin Center at the University of South Florida.  He is currently working on manuscripts and projects related to the use of hip-hop music and visual culture as a teaching tool, an interdisciplinary and thematic approach to art education, the use of survey research methodology in art classrooms, and continues to explore the subject of multi-age art education. 

Professor Broome’s most recent instructional experiences include the teaching of courses on the foundations of art education, art appreciation, the supervision of art education student teachers, children and art, secondary methods in art education, and cultural diversity in North American art.  Previously, as a graduate student and instructor-of-record at Florida State University, Professor Broome supervised student teachers and instructed courses on professional teaching portfolios, and also on classroom management, ethics, and school law.  His efforts in this capacity earned him an Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award in 2005. 

Professor Broome earned his M.A. in art education from the University of South Florida and his B.S. in art education from Florida State University.  He worked for eight years as a public school art teacher in Florida and earned recognition from his colleagues in the Hillsborough County School District with a Teacher of the Year Award.  Throughout his career he has worked directly with K-12 students in a variety of contexts, including public schools and non-profit community arts organizations.
