CURRICULUM UNITS

The development and dissemination of innovative and exemplary curricular materials has been and continues to be one of the primary missions of the North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts. All curriculum produced at the Institute embraces a comprehensive approach to teaching and learning in and through the arts and utilizes the Guidelines for Developing Art-Centered Instructional Units. The curriculum writers make connections to other areas of the curriculum, allowing teachers to implement fully integrated learning experiences.

Units of instruction have been developed as a part of the initiative with the Getty Education Institute for the Arts and as a part of the Transforming Education Through the Arts Initiative. These have been presented in issues of the NTIEVA Newsletter. Other units of instruction have been developed in collaboration with other organizations or groups. Most recently, three prototype units of instruction focusing on the work of early Texas artists were developed in collaboration with the Center for the Advancement and Study of Early Texas Art. A unit was also developed in collaboration with the Save Outdoor Sculpture initiative.
