The on-line application is now available for CVAD Scholarships at art.unt.edu/forms/scholarship-application. The form is easy to fill out if you have prepared your images/files in advance. Please note:

  • If you are a Design or Studio Art major, you will be submitting a minimum of eight (8) images along with your application. The pixel dimensions for any image maybe no larger than 800 pixels at the longest side (horizontal or vertical), 72 dpi, and the file may be no larger than 800kb. You will also submit a thumbnail page that contains small versions of all of your submitted images in the form of a PDF. The PDF may not exceed 800kb in size.
  • If you are an Art History major, you will be submitting one of your art history papers as well as a 500 word maximum abstract of that paper in PDF form.
  • If you are an Art Education/Visual Arts Studies major, you will be required to submit one of the following:
    • A one-page maximum teaching philosophy with a maximum of 2,250 characters (about 500 words), or...
    • An art history paper in PDF form, as well as provide an abstract with a maximum of 2,250 characters (about 500 words)
  • IADS majors are not required to submit anything extra outside the application and essay.

If you are a double major, you will need to prepare all of the documents listed above for each major. If you have prepared your documents appropriately, the application does not take long.

All applicants are asked to write a brief (500 word maximum) biographical statement regarding his/ her own art or design work, pursuits in art history, or his /her desire to teach art. Also tell us something about your future goals as they relate to your major.

You should also know that you may only submit one application. Once the application is submitted you will not be able to go back and correct or change any of the information. Fortunately, the system will not allow you to submit an incomplete application, but will flag the problem in red for you to address. Unfortunately, the system will not tell you what the nature of the problem is. If it is related to images, the problem will most certainly be the file type or the file size. If you have an error of this type, you will have to relink all of the files to the page.

If you continue to experience problems while making your application, please contact Jerry Aul at aul@unt.edu.

We look forward to receiving your application.

CVAD Scholarhip Information

Art students are eligible for scholarships awarded by the College of Visual Arts and Design as well as scholarships awarded by the University and the Honors College. (Financial aid information.)

In 2011-12, there were 64 Visual Art and Design Scholarships awarded for a total of over $55,000. This year we expect to award 62 scholarships for a total of over $65,500.

Scholarships are offered in every major area of the college. Through the generosity of donors to CVAD over the years, many of these scholarships are endowed and have been awarded many years running. Others are added each year.

Applicants for all visual art and design scholarships must be enrolled as full-time art majors at UNT and must meet individual scholarship requirements. While College of Visual Arts and Design Scholarships are generally only available to continuing students, outstanding continuing and transfer students and exceptional entering freshmen and first year graduate students may apply for a variety of competitive academic scholarships that are awarded by the school and university. While standards vary somewhat, most CVAD scholarships require:

  • Completion of at least 30 semester hours of college level work
  • Completion of 24 semester hours at UNT with a 3.0 cumulative GPA

This year, scholarship applications will be submitted online. The deadline for online submission will be Friday, February 3, 2012 at 4:00 p.m., and no late applications will be accepted. (You will be further required to provide unofficial transcripts from the Registrar's Office-you cannot use transcripts printed from my.unt.edu-which must be delivered to the Student Services Office in the Art Building no later than 5:00 p.m., Monday, February 6. The Scholarship awards are made each year at the annual Voertman Student Exhibition held in the spring. Many donors are able to attend and meet their scholarship recipient. Awards made are for the following academic year.

Information regarding the requirements for individual scholarships is available through the CVAD, Student Services Office, Art Building room 111, 940-565-2216. Students should check the Student Services webpage towards the end of the fall semester for the updated scholarship packet, which contains information and requirements for all the visual art and design scholarships offered and the deadline for turning in all information.
