Core Design Speakers: Nur Balkır & Umut Demirgüç Thurman
On Wednesday, March 8 in Sage Hall 116, Core Design will be hosting two back-to-back lectures.
At noon, artist and educator, Nur Balkır:
Originally from Manisa, Turkey, Nur has an MFA in printmaking at University of Newcastle upon Tyne (England) and a Ph.D. in Art Education from the University of North Texas. Since 2010, she has been an Assistant Professor in the Graphic Design Department at Kadir Has University in Istanbul, Turkey.
Her collage and mixed media work focus on human desires and dreams, disparities and conflicts as materialized in houses and other daily objects.
At 1pm, artist and educator, Umut Demirgüç Thurman:
Originally from Istanbul, Turkey, Umut has a BFA in textile design from Mimar Sinan University (Turkey) and an MFA in Metalsmithing & Jewelry from the University of North Texas. Currently, she works both in Istanbul and Texas, coordinating the Enameling & Metalsmithing Studio of The Glass Furnace and teaching at the University of North Texas. Her artworks in enamel and jewelry focus on the combination of process and material through historic and contemporary inspirations.
All CVAD students are welcome to attend the lectures.
As part of Collaborate4, their work will be on display at UNT on the Square from March 10 to April 8, 2017. The opening reception will be held at 5:30 - 7:00 pm on March 10.
