CVAD Students Visit Major Corporate Art Collection

In Assistant Professor of Art History Paula Lupkin's seminar, "Region and Regionalism in the American Southwest," students conducted fieldwork on the relationship between the railroads and art collecting in the early 20th century at the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad corporate headquarters on Friday.

The company acquired its magnificent art collection as part of early 20th-century advertising campaigns to attract tourists and settlers along its northwestern and southwestern routes.

Hundreds of paintings, as well as ceramics, furniture, rugs, maps, and ephemera, are displayed in a visitor's gallery, conference rooms, and outside the traffic operations center.
