Maymester in NY: Info Session
UNT College of Visual Arts & Design will offer two sections of ART 4120/5000 this summer in New York, NY during the Maymester session. If you are interested, you can attend the upcoming informational meeting for Art on Location (New York) - Maymester 2018.
February 5th at 5:30pm
These two sections (ART 4120/5000) will be co-taught by New Media Professors Liss LaFleur and Jonathan Molina-Garcia, and are open to all CVAD undergraduate and graduate students. This course can substitute or count as any Advanced Art Elective needed in CVAD degree plans.
As a cohort, the group will visit major museums, galleries, and artist studios. This summer, the course will focus on using the Polaroid 20X24 camera. Named the “Mythical Beast,” this one-of-a-kind 300lb camera has been used by famous artists like Andy Warhol and has photographed US presidents and celebrities alike. After 2018, this camera and all film needed to use it will become extinct.
For this course, students will work collaboratively with the instructors to create lens-based works in the Polaroid studio. Time in the studio will include lighting, alternative processing techniques unique to this camera, and collaborative production.
The course will include two on-campus meetings in early May and a trip to New York from May 21st through May 28th, 2018.
