Kurt Rahmlow

Senior Lecturer
Dr. Rahmlow received his M.A. in English from Northeastern University and his M.A. and Ph.D. in art history from the University of Iowa. His research interests include European art of the late-19th and early-20thcenturies, utopian artists’ communities, intersections of art and literature, and Pictorial photography. He has had several articles accepted for publication by peer-reviewed interdisciplinary and art historical journals, and he has presented his research at annual meetings of the College Art Association, the Midwest Art History Society, the Modernist Studies Association, and the Society for Utopian Studies. In 2008, he received the Arthur O. Lewis Award from the Society for Utopian Studies for the best paper given by a junior scholar at the annual meeting of the society. He is currently preparing a book-length study of Symbolist decorative painting in France during the Belle Époque. Dr. Rahmlow teaches introductory art history classes and advanced undergraduate courses on modern and contemporary art. Before coming to UNT, Dr. Rahmlow taught modern and contemporary art history at the University of Missouri and Virginia Commonwealth University. His research has been supported by a number of fellowships and awards, including a Seashore Dissertation-Year Fellowship at the University of Iowa.
