Shay is a writer, visual artist, teacher and mentor. In 2015 she worked in the UNT Career Center as the Career Adviser to Creatives and has conducted professional development and artist statement writing workshops in CVAD for the studio department. She is the author of novels, plays and a collection of short fiction. Her published plays have been widely produced and include Shakin’ the Mess Out of Misery, Communism Killed My Dog and her most recent play, Widows of America: Denton County. Youngblood received her MFA in Creative Writing from Brown University. She has taught creative writing to faculty and graduate students at NYU and was Writer in Residence at the University of Mississippi and Texas A&M University among others. She was recently awarded an NEA sponsored Japan-US Creative Artist Fellowship to conduct research on architecture and memory in Japan.
